Patient Stories

Kelly Doyle

Kelly Doyle is self-employed, operating tourist cottages and a tour business in the summer, then working at fishing and logging in the off seasons. He had a hernia repaired at Prince County Hospital using minimally invasive surgery, and he was back to lifting heavy suitcases in and out of his tour van within a week.
“I went into the OR around 8:30 in the morning,” said Kelly. “The procedure was over at 10:30. Soon after that I got up and tied my own shoelaces, and I was home drinking coffee by noontime. And that’s every word of truth.

"I had no pain. I’ve since talked to other people who had this operation done the old way, and they went through a lot of pain. I went through no discomfort at all. And Dr. Bannon told me I could go back to work in a week, with no limitation!” said a delighted Kelly.

Prince County Hospital is becoming a centre of excellence for minimally invasive surgery on PEI.
